PSI Hosts Policy Dialogue on the Future of Jordan–India Relations in a Changing Regional Order

The Politics and Society Institute held a specialized discussion session titled: “Jordan and India: Prospects for a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a Changing Regional Order,” with the participation of experts, diplomats, and researchers in international politics and regional affairs.

The session was convened as part of an ongoing study conducted by the Institute, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of India in Jordan, aiming to reassess Jordan–India relations in light of rapidly evolving regional and global dynamics—particularly India’s rise as a major Asian power, the growing significance of new economic corridors, and the profound shifts reshaping regional security structures.

The session opened with an overview of the study’s objectives and analytical framework, which deconstructs the bilateral relationship across three main pillars: the political and strategic dimension, economic cooperation and diversification of partnerships, and soft power and societal connectivity.

Preliminary findings presented during the session indicated that Jordan–India relations are undergoing a clear restructuring, driven by changing roles of international and regional actors and the emergence of new areas of cooperation beyond traditional sectors. The findings also highlighted significant opportunities to deepen the partnership in renewable energy, artificial intelligence, pharmaceuticals, and digital services, as well as the potential for trilateral cooperation with Gulf countries in economic and logistical connectivity projects.

Participants discussed the implications of India’s expanding ties across the region—including cooperation with Israel and the Gulf states—on the political space available to Jordan and its position as a balancing actor in the Levant. They also examined challenges arising from competition between China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), and how these dynamics influence Jordan’s strategic options.

The session concluded by emphasizing that the most effective path to strengthening the Jordan–India partnership lies in leveraging India’s advanced technological capabilities, opening channels for academic and research cooperation, and developing joint tools in green energy, cybersecurity, and data infrastructure.

The Politics and Society Institute will incorporate the insights and perspectives raised during the session into the final version of the study, with the aim of formulating practical policy recommendations that support decision-makers in both countries and reinforce the trajectory of a sustainable strategic partnership.
