Seminar entitled “Facing Unemployment… Establishing a Future Strategic Framework”

The unemployment file has been one of the most prominent priorities declared by Jordanian governments, for several years, and despite attempts to confront and mitigate it through various strategies and policies, it is still trending to rise, until it reached unprecedented rates, especially after the Corona pandemic.

Unemployment rates are currently estimated at about 25% (first half of 2021), and the percentage of those aged between 15 and 24 of the unemployed Jordanians is estimated at about 39.2%, and those over the age of 25 reach 61% (59% among males, and about 66% among males, and about 66%). between females).

But despite all the announced efforts and policies and official discourses that speak of the seriousness of this scourge and its social, economic, political and security dimensions, we still do not have a clear, declared strategic vision framed within long-term policies to understand unemployment first and set a gradual time frame to confront it. Perhaps the most dangerous thing that the previous discussion workshop (held by the Institute of Politics and Society in cooperation with the Arab Renaissance Organization for Democracy and Development (ARDD) referred to is the absence of continuity and communication in the plans to combat unemployment, which made official efforts revolve in a closed circle in dealing with this pandemic.

As part of its efforts to contribute to the public debate in understanding unemployment and the policies required to confront it, the Institute for Politics and Society, in partnership with the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) organization, will hold on Tuesday (February 22, 2022) a discussion workshop entitled “In the face of unemployment… strategic paths” (Fi Tammam) Five o’clock in the Adnan Abu Odeh Hall at the Institute), which is part of a series of workshops during which a group of experts and specialists in this field are hosted, to come up at the end of the workshops with a policy paper that includes a detailed conception of the Jordanian unemployment file, the causes that led to it, and the required contexts to confront it, within A graduated action plan starting from the short term and ending with the long term strategies.
